Steemit isn't a big deal and never will be. It's just a hodgepodge of content - basically a blogging platform - where you can only make money on that content for 7 days. No big influencers are going to be interested in that at all.
But I don't think Steemit was ever meant to be a big deal - it was created as an experiment to showcase how something could be built on STEEM.
Better platforms will be built on STEEM and replace Steemit, and that's a good thing. I'm looking forward to what will come. I don't really care about Steemit anymore.
And yes, it has a lot of network problems, in addition to all the other problems - but those are things to be learned from so the same mistakes aren't made by future developers.
STEEM itself is a success, and Steemit was a great experiment - the first of many to come.
