STEEMIT NEWS -- Bitcoin struggled to hold the $ 8,000 level on Thursday (15/3/2018) due to continued regulatory uncertainty ahead of the G20 meeting later this week.

The finance ministers and central bankers of the Group of 20 major nations will meet in Argentina this weekend and are expected to discuss policy on cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin briefly slumped below its key psychological level on Thursday evening New York time at Coinbase, the main market in the U.S. to buy and sell cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrency is trading near $ 8,020 at 11:44 am ET, down more than 7.5 percent over the past 24 hours. Bitcoin dropped below $ 8,000 overnight before trying to hold close to $ 8,300.

"You get positive industry news, negative external factors," says Charlie Hayter, CEO of CryptoCompare's industry data site. While Google prohibits widely anticipated cryptocurrency ads, "you have other negative effects from G20 regulatory news and news and how they will react to cryptocurrency."

Bitcoin crashed on Wednesday after Google said it would ban advertising for products linked to cryptocurrency that will start in June.
