Don't buy and hold bitcoin unless you have more than $20,000 investment. The growth of bitcoin is steady but you're not gonna make much money soon from it. Buy and hold one or some of the top altcoins and you will make many times more money than bitcoin.

i respect und understand your opinion and yes, alts were furiously racing to the sky, but how many of these alts and so-called "shitcoins" are here to stay? ETH for sure, but once the first ICO frauds, which are based on ETH will blow, what´s gonna happen? yeah, the "crash". Dash may stay, but they need to get their use-case (retail payments) done and widely accepted some time. XRP, okay, its made by the banks and will be used by the banks. LTC? Well, since BTC may be the "gold", this might be the "silver" I do have alts, including ERC20s, but you will need to time the market on most of them, which the average person WILL fail at.
I think you answered your question. Many will stay and in a growing market there are many opportunities. I believe you didn't study most of the altcoin projects out there since many have different agenda and target market for themselves.
