Of course it's possible. There are only 16 million BTC at the moment. If you want to give everybody on the planet an equal share, everyone will get something like 0.002 BTC. Biggest threat for BTC is the exponentially increasing power required though imo. If the number crunchers do not become more energy efficient, we'll need a battery of nuclear power plants to produce enough "Proof of Waste".
If Bitcoin plans to use it worldwide as a means of payment, they have to increase the volume anyway. The value then would not increase so rapidly.
The total is fixed on 21 million.
