By extrapoliating data from Pitchbook a platform which provides comprehensive M&A, private equity, and venture capital data, as well as daily industry news and analysis - we can see that 59 Bitcoin related companies have raised Venture Capital Funding during the year.
The largest round has been risen by Coinbase. The company raised $108.10 million of Series D venture funding in a deal lead by IVP on August 11, 2017, putting the pre-money valuation at $1.5 billion. Spark Capital, Greylock Partners, Battery Ventures, Section 32, Draper Associates, Expanding Capital, Tusk Ventures and other undisclosed investors also participated in this round. The latest investment will help the firm to increase the size of its engineering and customer support teams in a bid to improve the customer experience. It will also use the funds to open a new Global Digital Asset Exchange (GDAX) office in New York City and will invest in Toshi to accelerate digital currency's shift from speculative investment to global payment network. The investment brings the company's total funding to $217 million to date.
This is an increase of over 50% compared to that of 2016.
