RE: New Bitcoin paradigm! Bcash situation explained by Ripple, crypto-dividends, hold power!

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Hi @bitcoinmeister,

Nice video!

I think in non-technical parlance 'dividend' is the perfect word as it can describe an unexpected 'one-off' reward.

Perhaps in finance 'windfall’, ‘windfall shares’ or ‘windfall gain’ may be more appropriate in this case, as ‘dividend’ in financial terminology would tend to imply a regular (usually monthly, quarterly or annually) pay-out derived from company earnings, whereas a windfall can be cash or assets received unexpectedly due to an unforeseen event - i.e. it is not one of the regular or known perks of holding a particular cryptocurrency.

For example: I would tend to view Bitcoin Cash as a windfall, but Neo Gas as a dividend.

I may be completely wrong; just thought I would share my thoughts with you, for what they're worth.

Dividend:

(Finance)

  • a pro-rata share in an amount to be distributed.
  • a sum of money paid to shareholders of a corporation out of earnings.

Windfall Gains:

  • Often simple windfall. Income received due to an unforeseen event over which the recipient had no control.

Windfall Shares:

  • Shares given for free to insiders of a society, a firm or a company when that same society, firm or company is undergoing the process of demutualisation. Windfall shares are often given to promote goodwill and to encourage the demutualisation process.
