My Bitcoin Project

Art is a lot like life. In art you might start with an idea, a vision, that makes you start down one path, but then something happens that makes you step back and reevaluate everything.

This was the start of making an interpretation of a Bitcoin. It is made from layers of resin, paint, and specialty films. I used these techniques in the past to make scale jewelry, but then I decided to make everything on a larger scale. 20171231_192446.jpg
It was coming along niceley...

But then I arrived at the lines that I wanted to have as the final layer behind the Bitcoin symbol...

Grrrr the lines. First I tried a compass and paint marker. The results were very underwhelming. They were inconsistent, and lacked any kind of dimension. It looked just cheap, plain, childish, and that is not what I was going for. Then it struck me to tape the lines! I covered the whole coin with the masking tape I had on hand, used the trusty compass to trace everything out, cut it all exactingly with my razor, layered lacquer and gold flake, peeled the tape and.........

The lines were there! eureka! But then I made a discovery.... The tape left a sticky layer of glue all over the whole peice. I couldn't believe it. It clouded up the perfect layers of resin that gave a depth and shimmer. I tried every thing I had that would strip glue, and I was able to remove most of it. That is except in the lines. I cannot get close to them or they start to dissolve. Four layers of resin so far and five days wasted...
That is until talking with my son about an old silent movie that was ahead of it's time, Metropolis. The story is rich, and still relevant. The effects are not terrible dating all the way from 1927. But it is the machine. Ah the beautiful android that is brought to life and given human form. I believe this is my answer, my lemonade.

I think I will attempt to sculpt her face and mount it on the coin. This could be the new direction, and a new purpose. Not what was originally planned, but perhaps better, more original, more relevant to life.
