Do be honest I really think that the word "Blockchain" gets thrown around far too often nowadays just to get more attention from the media.
What in my opinion really defines a Blockchain is a decentralized consensus protocol which can be used by anyone to rune a node and confirm transaction and get rewards from it otherwise as you said nobody would want to run it. This protocol Google is using for example is just a centralized system with no rewards and could also be defined as simple multiple copies of a database in the cloud on different internal servers. Nothing public and nothing really decentralized. But that is just my thought on all that and I would be very glad do your opinions out there.
