Ledger nano s

Hey there people!

Today I will tell you all a bit more about the ledger nano s. The ledger nano s is a hardware wallet wich you can use to store your cryptocurrencies. It looks like an USB-stick and connects with every computer. ledger nano.JPG

The important thing with storing cryptocurrencies is that you always own your private keys. If you dont own your private keys then it means that you are not really the owner of your cryptocurrency. If you for example use an exchange to store your altcoins and you dont have acces to your private keys then its not really you who owns them but the exchange-site. The site can steal your coins and do unauthorized transfers if they want so its advised to not store big amounts of coins on exchanges and be sure the exchange is really thrustworthy.

An alternative could be to have a hardware wallet. The ledger nano S is a really good alternative for this. The device looks like an USB-stick and have a display on it. You always own your own private keys wich are stored securely on the device. This means that only you have acces to your funds. All transactions you make are safe because you have to verify them physically on the screen of the ledger. Because you have to verify it physically it can't be hacked.

The ledger nano S is working really smoothly. Once you connect it to your computer you have to put a PIN-code on the screen of the ledger to unlock it and after that you just open the app of the currency you want to manage.ledger pin.JPG All the apps you can download via the ledger manager. After opening the app on your ledger you do the same on your pc. Now there will open an interface wich shows you your balance. Here you are also able to send coins or find your adress where others can send coins too.

The ledger nano S is already supporting a lot of coins and they are updating frequently to add new ones. On the picture you can see the coins wich are supported just now. coins.png

The only thing wich I dont like so much is that you can only have like 3 wallets at the same time installed on it because the memory of the ledger is not so big. You can uninstall an app without losing any balance but it could be a bit of work to install and uninstall apps whole the time if you own a lot of different coins. The price for a ledger varies a bit depending on the country where you live but I think its affordable especially when it means that your coins will be safe.

I'm really happy with my ledger nano s and would recommend it to all other people. If you have any questions about it you can ask them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.

Nice informative post about the Ledger. The sad thing is that my country is such idiotic country that it takes 100% import duty and so the cost here is very high

If im correct then the main factory of ledger is located in france so ordering from within europe would probably be cheaper anyway (if you forget about the import duty). I still think you should order one tough, its worth it :)

Does it allow exchanging within the wallet or we still have to do that via 3rd party websites. I understand its a wallet meant to store but still checking up.

Its not supporting exchanges within the wallet but they supported both the bch and btg forks. This means that you could claim the new coins to a new wallet within the ledger without moving your btc anywhere.
