Things might be different in different places.
PayPal is as good as unknown in russian segment. Most popular way to trade BTC here is via Telegram messenger. They have BTC trading bot providing escrow service, so it's some sort of decentralized exchange built in.

Hmmm. Interesting. Is there a Russian equivalent of Paypal? Something easy and normie friendly? I think Russian's are far more innovative with things like this. A mixture of technical ability and having to solve problems themselves rather than have the nanny state take charge.

But you mentioned barter and I think this decentralised exchange I mentioned is just something like that, and it even provides escrow.
