ICOs have raised $4 billion in 2017
2017 has certainly been a record-breaking year for ICOs: the fiat equivalent of about $4 billion have been raised with this mechanism, and the number of successful placements of tokens have increased to several hundreds worldwide.
According to the ICObench list, there are about 180 new ICOs already known to be launched in 2018. In the coming year, the ICOs industry will offer more projects to serve the wider community, which wont be limited by such areas as the blockchain infrastructure development, payments and speculative trading. They are less likely to revolve around a purely financial technologies. In 2017, we have already seen examples of the blockchain notary, blockchain-investment in real estate, loyalty programs, intellectual property rights and other real applications. Surely, we
ll see more of such projects in 2018.
ICOs segment is still in its infancy, but this baby is very well gaining weight and growing. He still needs to go through many childhood diseases. He will have to earn trust and reputation. Investing in ICOs requires extreme caution. To gain trust, we must start from the inside and establish it with a help of the community itself.
Even in the absence of government regulations, self-regulatory structure of the ICOs is bound to arise, otherwise the economy will not survive. In addition, to avoid over regulation and unnecessary government intervention, it is important that the community itself could handle the situation with the ICOs, and it should do it better than any regulator.
