Woot. The girlfriend of Iron Man was on Apple TV as an advisor for Abra. Abra is a bitcoin digital wallet. According to this article her work on the show pushed the abra app to the top of Apple iTunes store, which is a first for a bitcoin app. It is great to see celebrities backing the coin, including ones such as Gwyneth Paltrow who are A listers.
The benefits behind this are fairly obvious. First it brings attention to the coin. Hench the reason why I found a news article about it. But it also helps to legitimize the coin. We need to move from the idea of the coin being used in the shadows and celebrities, who have to put their name and image out there, are a great way to get there. Think about it, a celebrity is really risking it backing up an app for a coin and this suggests how solid the tech is.
Also now that Iron Man is onboard think of all the cool tech we will get. Maybe we will get suits that you can use to pay for stuff with bitcoin with. And yes that last part is a joke.
