Is it concerning that the Profit/Expenses from the Bitshares Reserve Pool is typically negative? Does that mean that Bitshares is running at a loss and could become unstable financially?
Great question and sorry for the delayed response; i hope this finds you well..
Bitshares as an evolving platform is reinvesting in it own development with the funding of worker proposals. The chart is actually slightly deceiving as for the last 6 months or so worker proposals have been being paid with Smartcoin via the multisig escrow mechanism. What this means is that more than the required amount of BTS is being managed by the multisig escrow which is using the BTS it receives to buy or create smartcoin for payment of the workers. This helps the ecosystem as well as shareholders and workers as the payment for worker proposals is a stable rate and does not fluctuate with the value of BTS.
The Multisig escrow burns the excess BTS back into the reserve pool after some time; this can be seen as the massive spike of profitability on the same chart that seen 6.5 Million BTS being returned to the reserve pool. As such this chart is not as informative as it once was and would require further analysis to determine if our income (fees) are more than out expenses (witnesses and worker proposals).
I would be pretty confident that if we were to halt all active development we would be instantly profitable, but the net benefits of the development and work being preformed is far greater in the long run.
While on this topic; consider the effects once Bitshares is running at a profit; Bitshares will become a deflationary currency as the circulating supply would be reduce W/W at the same time as our warchest for investment would be growing. not to mention a raising price helps collateral ratios of the smartcoins thus promoting further growth and more utility.
awesome reply, thank you.
i real need some simply explanation on bitshare
It's supposed to be Bitcoin re-imagined as an actual profitable entity. So far, Bitshares is significantly more profitable than Bitcoin but yet still not making an actual profit.
I agree that Bitshares should be making profit. Lord knows Bitfinex is.
My favourite time of the week. Thank you. ;)
You welcome, so i am new assist me to grow
Cheers Tony! Thank you
LMAO. That advert for Eristica is crazy. Throwing a cat in a radioactive box is not a good look, but then again, it's Russia.
I can see this app doing really well until the first actual Death-By-Eristica
I had exactly the same thoughts as you when i seen that cat... I do like the idea of the project though; could get very interesting :)
Yeah, it's a cool idea. Count me in!
Another fantastic update! THANK YOU!!!
Now I wonder if the "2018 Conscious Media Festival in Austin Texas on the 2-4th of March, invitation for Stan comes from the people I contacted a few months ago!?! This is super cool and what a potent place to be invited to speak to.
Namaste :)
Bitshares needs to focus on better marketing?! Supported by Ledger Nano S would also be nice..
It has always been a weak point but we are seeing a large amount of positions being funded through the Bitshares worker proposals now and we already have a team of people looking at marketing. hopefully we can see the position become official and make sure we get the word out!
Would also love to see this on Ledger, i know @agorise was working on this; all his stuff is public so if he is busy and someone has the skills we can bring this forward and get it funded
Thanks for the comment
This is okey now for the large fund, and with your help i too can grow. So i look forward in your assistance in this site. Thanks
Marketiers have yet to get excited about the possible earnings trough the BitShares affiliate program. Nothing you can do about it so far. But BitShares may be the only blockchain project that actively pays for marketing on the protocol level. Very promising in the long run.
Instead of cryptokitties, we'll be seeing cryptomons now?
No worries if they run the 'mons' on DPOS
With you no worry because i know you will help me grow here as a new comer. Thanks.
Haha! That would be great. Something like using your tokens to tame monsters. OMG! I'm so excited!
Pokemon mmorpg ran on crypto's, how awesome would that be!
Very Informative and good analysis Bitshares

I was hoping to learn more about recent problems. I just opened account 2 days ago and yesterday I couldn't send Steem to BTS, OpenLedger was down, Blocktrades was down. My account was out of sync. Scarry for new member. I have seen questions on chat and Reddit, but not much of explanations, if this is normal, does it happens often, how reliable the whole thing is regarding all this. It is hard getting any information what is happening. And you would want to know more, to understand what is going on, if you want to send & have money there.
wow wonderful post of the week thanks @steempower

500,000 new accounts in a week? We can all be happy about this. I feel we are reaching the tipping point :)
Not 500,000 in a week! 500,000 in all.

Hi , just opened an bitshares account and need some help as I made a mistake. Maybe you can give an advice. I didn't download my password (as I thought the file name is it) however I still have this long account recovery number. Can I get my password back with it or do I have to create a new account? And if possible, where do I put in this recovery number ?
