The main event of Fight 2 Win 81 in Philly saw Gilbert Burns win a decision over the gritty Nick Calvanese.
Burns, nicknamed “Durinho”, had to fend off Calvanese’s non-stop wrestling attacks. The American doubled up on his shots, using deep penetration to secure bodylocks but the Brazilian MMA fighter’s base and balance proved good enough to stay up when necessary.
Durinho managed to score a big takedown of his own later in the match, but the decision came thanks to a number of close guillotine attempts. Fight 2 Win judging criteria places near submission attacks over all other maneuvers, and though Calvanese was able to pop his head out the threat outranked any of the wrestler’s takedown attempts.
All three judges scored the bout in favor of Burns.
