Firas Zahabi is one of the best coaches the MMA world has seen. He has coached former UFC champion Georges St. Pierre, as well as UFC, now turned Bellator star, Rory McDonald. He hosts his own YouTube mma breakdowns.
Recently, Zahabi turned to bitcoin to skirt the ridiculous laws against grappling tournaments in Quebec. He hosts his online tournament Pure Victory Championship that pays out Bitcoin and Dash. He's not allowed to host the tournaments locally, or give out prize money. Since digital currency is considered a commodity, he has found a way to reward fighters. Spectators who also watch the matches can also tip the fighters.
You can watch the tourney episodes below.

It would be pretty interesting to see someone of his stature hosting such tournaments and podcasts on Steemit. You can Tweet him here to let him know more about steemit:

I'm glad to see some of the jiu jitsu and mma world beginning to see the value in digital currency and platforms.

This is great! What a workaround.
Yeah.. I mean that's a great way to get around the bs laws on grappling. I wish he'd consider how he could use Steemit & view.ly, or live streaming from @zappl.
thx for the re-steem btw :) always appreciated
Now that is right up your alley.
Yeah, I wish I could put on a Steemit based tourney. I actually reached out to someone I know that puts on Fuji tournaments in my general area. However, they hold contracts with Fuji and I don't think they'll consider crossover. I need to find someone who does it on their own. My academy is very self-defense based, with splashes of competition jits, so I don't think I could convince the owner of my school to use his mats for such a tournament. But, I am still exploring potential options. Still, if we could see someone as well-known as Firas Zahabi on Steemit, that would be huge potential to attract the jits and mma world to this platform.
