The history of the construction of this temple is estimated at the beginning of the 9th century AD during the reign of Rakai Pikatan of the Hindu Mataram Kingdom. A Dutch physiologist, J.G. De Casparis, also stated the same statement by adhering to the Cri Kahulunan Inscription (842 AD). It is said that Plaosan Lor Temple was built by Queen Sri Kahulunan with the support of her husband. De Casparis himself argues that Sri Kahulunan is the title of Pramordhawardani daughter of King Samarattungga of the Syailendra dynasty.
Plaosan temple is a symbol of religious harmony in Indonesia, if you go to Yogyakarta, don't forget to visit here.
