I wouldn't have known about the term Black Friday had I not been active with my online activities. I first encounter the term from one of the posts in a Forum site where I am an active member. I didn't have the slightest idea on what it was all about so I need to make a search. It is quite understandable because I live in the Philippines and this annual event is most popular in the US. We also have different terms used for sales events such as Midnight Sale, PayDay Sale, Christmas Sale, Pre-Valentines Sale, Year-End Sale, Inventory Sale etc. But never did I encounter such term as Black Friday before. Well, even up to this time, I haven't seen any mall in our area with a post regarding Black Friday Sale.

With the increasing popularity of online shops, the Black Friday Sales Events has been adopted by the international online shops including, eBay, Walmart, etc. Even the online stores from the Philippines are already adopting the Black Friday Sale giving us, Filipinos the opportunity to enjoy the huge discounts being given by online shops like Lazada, Zalora and other shops. We don't need to travel all the way to the US in order to experience this one-of-a-kind sales event. Thanks to the modern technology.

History of Black Friday

Based on history, Black Friday is the day after the Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday of November. This is known to be the official start of the Christmas shopping season in the US. Most shopping malls would open earlier during that day and would usually close late in order to accommodate the flocks of shoppers who would like to avail of the huge discounts.

Thanksgiving and Its Relation to Black Friday

Thanksgiving Day is a public holiday celebrated in the US on the fourth Thursday of November. On September 28, 1879, President George Washington issued a proclamation declaring Thursday, November 26, 1789, as a "Day of Publick Thanksgivin". Succeeding presidents issued proclamation declaring a specific date of the year for such event. Until President Roosevelt signed a resolution on December 26, 1941, establishing the fourth Thursday of November as a Federal Thanksgiving Day holiday. Why Black Friday is Called Black Friday

Trying to know the rationale behind this term makes even more confusing because of the different versions of stories. Some sources stated that the reason for this term was due to the financial crisis, which refers to the crash of the US gold market on September 24, 1969.

Another version was related to accounting wherein after an entire year of loss which was marked "red" in the accounting book, stores would earn a profit after the Thanksgiving, therefore the accounting record would be written in "black ink".

There is also another story that is telling that because of the number of accidents happening during this event, that is why it was called Black Friday.

When Will Be the Black Friday?

This year's Black Friday event is on November 24, 2017.

How to Avail of the Great Discounts?

Even in the Philippines, we are fortunate that we can avail of the Black Friday deals same way as the Americans do. With the presence of online shops in our country, nothing can stop us from getting the same benefits without actually going to the US.

Gift items for the coming holidays such as electronic items, footwear, clothes, household appliances, bags and luggage among others are only some of the items that we can avail from online shops.

But the question is how?
The best way is to go directly to the online shopping website of your choice. Here are some of the online stores that I've bookmarked to check from time to time so that we may be able to avail of great discounts.

LAZADA

I am a regular customer of Lazada and I can vouch for their good service. Can't wait for the huge discounts on their products that will be available this coming Black Friday Sale.

ZALORA

What I like most with Zalora is the timely delivery of their items and the fact that they do offer Cash on Delivery. they also offer 30-days free return and free delivery above items priced at Php995.00.

SEPHORA.PH

An online store that offers a wide variety of beauty products which includes make-up, skin care, hair care, bath and body, and gift items. Watch out for the upcoming Black Friday Deals! I have yet to try this online shop and hoping to find a great deal.

There are lots of online stores that we can try. All we need is to be resourceful and read reviews from other buyers who already availed products from the store. Though, we can also try it on our own as there is no better review than our own experience.

I heard of black Friday no long ago. Though I'm not so sure but I heard that it is one of the pre-Christmas program organized to make the season interesting...
But one thing I still don't understand is that... Is the percentage discount for black Friday fixed worldwide?

Lovely presentation ... upvoted
