RE: How can I serve you?

in #blacklivesmatter5 years ago (edited)

wow, this was a powerful story and it took some guts on your part to be vulnerable like this. Last Tuesday, I was asking myself the very questions that you asked yourself, "how can i help?" (the lesson about 'serve' is powerful). Like you, I am white. So, here we are.....on Tuesday, I created the Black Lives Matter Community here on Hive, I did not create it for myself, but for the entire community, as a space where we can be honest and share our experiences. And when the Black Lives Matter leaders or organizers arrive, I'd like to give them ownership. It was one way that I thought of where I could contribute, as no BLM community existed before.

So, I too need help, with finding those leaders who want to take ownership, as I never wanted to be the person who is owning this community....I just saw a need for it, as there were a lot of people speaking their minds as we see history unfold, but at that time, no BLM community existed, where we can all see related posts.
So, here is my request, since you're speaking with your friend for 40 days: can you ask him if he knows any people who are passionate about Black Lives Matter who want to contribute, moderate, and then be the owwers of the Black Lives Matter community here on Hive?
Here's the BLM community: https://peakd.com/c/hive-186309/created

I had to overcome my own ignorance, and feelings of discomfort, knowing that I would need to reach out to people I don't know in order to hand over ownership to BLM leaders. Anyway, let me know what your friend says in response to this.

Thanks for sharing this story.

@Stellabelle I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read my thoughts and contemplate the same exact questions. I believe being vulnerable will only open our minds to change, and we as white people must begin this open dialogue with so many to begin to heal the wounds of the past.

I will reach out to my friend, and see what he says. I think that makes perfect sense, and totally agree with you. We need to give the opportunity to lead this space to the right people.

I don't seek recognition or glory for writing about these things, but simply just want to be a humble servant and part of the solution towards equality.

yeah me too. Thanks for your reply, and let me know what your friend says. Also, you might invite him here to contribute, as we can benefit from more voices on the topic.
