It was a fascinating unique and unforgettable journey. We were guided by a blind guide and he led us to experience what it felt like to walk in the absolute darkness. literally no light, all we could rely on was our hearing , smelling, touching and of course our blind guide. It was in a large room and each section represented different part of their daily life.
First, Each of us was given a stick. Sorry I couldn't take picture. They gave us some instruction and our blind guide-- let's call him Joe came out and introduce himself. we couldn't see his face , it was in a complete darkness. Joe told us to close our eyes as it would be tiring if you kept your eyes open in the dark.
I felt vulnerable and walked very slowly even with the help of stick. The first stop was a park we could feel grass on the ground, bunches with leaves and branches and benches to sit on. We were led to a big boat, we could hear the waves and having water splashed to us when it moved. We walked to grocery store to feel the fruit, vegetable, rice and snacks. we could pick it up and smelt. Each of us guest differently for the same object. We were passing the traffic light. It was not easy at all. I think I lost direction and joe helped me walk through. I was not used to listening to signal of traffic light. I don't think most people who can see do even though we know what the sound was for.
The last stop was in a store. We were asked if we wanted to buy anything. and then we sat down with our snacks and started asking Joe questions. We had the biggest doubt whether Joe was just someone wearing google with night vision or visually impaired, I guest the former cause he guided us so well like he could see every part of the room. It turns out all the staff we met in the dark were blind. Joe told us that he was not born blind. He lost his vision when he was 19. Joe was easy to talk to and super friendly. At the end, he walked us back to the light and said goodbye.
I cherished my eyes more even after this experience and wont take it for granted! Please support by visiting the museum. It was a unique journey
這次體驗真的挺稀奇. 你能用你其他的感應去探索你的環境. 我在黑暗中什麼都看不到, 一步一步都要非常小心地走. 我們的指導Joe 慢慢地帶我地去過馬路, 坐船, 去公園.
