I went to my doctor's appointment and was greeted with a smiling "sweet" receptionist "clarifying" that all lives matter (which she said while gesturing to the words on my shirt). 😒
This says a lot about why this movement is so important. There are definitely still people that don't get it.
Why are so many black people killed for being black if all lives matter? Why don't more of us have a problem with this?
I'm glad I at least wore my shirt today, to interrupt what people might be expecting in a mostly white doctor's office and area ab an hour outside of Seattle.
I was thought I would be posting pictures of plants and blog about gardening stuff here, but then Ahmaud Arbery, Brionna Taylor, George Flynn (and many more it seemed) died for no apparent reason at all. Then talking ab my garden didn't seem as relevant.
As a white woman who has given birth to a beautiful black girl, who has way too often asked if she is adopted (she wasn't) what race she is, if she speaks Spanish, questioning if she's really black, or why her looks are different from her mom's looks...I couldn't not mention that this shit happens all the time. That's why the world is protesting right now, I am doing anything and everything I can to make this world a safe one for her to exist in.
Happy ending though, when I saw the doctor we got to talking about different marches and walks we have participated in and she mentioned a woman she saw on the tv at one of the protests that she felt, "that one is what I would be holding.." and the sign said "I'm 66 and I'm still protesting this shit.". I felt better by the time I left.
BLACK LIVES MATTER let's get it RIGHT this time!!!
