Smoothing The Edges: Using Great Design To Grow Your Steemit Blog

yellow-metal-design-decoration.jpg

Great blog design can make your blog stand out.

It is true that the Steemit interface leaves little room for additional design, but design goes beyond Web design.

The recent update made it possible for Steemians to add a cover photo alongside their profile picture and this have helped spice up our blogs a bit.

But the truth is that most of your readers will rarely visit your blog, they may just see your post on their home feed, read it and add their two cents and go to another post without viewing your blog.

So how do you captivate them?

By using great pictures, design goes beyond designing a blog header or banner, the pictures you use in your post can do wonders for you, and if done right it can reinforce the point you are trying to make in your post

Most people fail to realize this and use sloppy pictures for their post, this makes your content look boring even if you actually make sense

Now that we have established that pictures in a great part of blog design

There is a big difference between good and bad design. Good design is magnetic and draws your reader in

Bad design can make your content unappealing and frustrates readers

But design goes beyond using beautiful pictures or blog headers

The process of design cannot be automated or generated, it needs to go beyond that

In order for it to be achieved, you have to reach a level of connection with your reader

That is why it is vital to blog about what you love or waht you are passionate about, because only then can you connect with your audience

When I go to pexels or unsplash to get pictures for my posts, there is something going on at the back of mind, there are numerous pictures online but i manage to pick the ones that always resonates with my audience

I know this because, my posts always get postitve feedback, and someone told me recently that even my Images are quality content

So these are the things you need to keep in mind when choosing any form of design for your blog

Be Human

Your blog design is one of the first things your readers will notice and that alone is enough to convince someone to click your post

You have to know that you are writing for Humans , not Bots

Design also includes text, so you also have to ensure that your posts are well arranged, if you don't know how to use Markdown then you have download the guide and study it

If you use fancy pictures and blog headers and people find it difficult to read your posts, you will not make the impact you desire

Give Your Brand A Soul

Emotions play a huge role in the decisions we make , your blog design goes a long way in determining how people feel about your blog

The Imagery and general design of your blog goes a long way in determining how people interact with your brand and I have discovered that a good design validates what you are saying and makes it easier for your audience to implement your call to action

If you want your readers to be happy anytime they visit your blog then use joyful colours and have a little sense of humor. 🙂

So What Should You do next

Go through your previous content and review them based on the points I have made on this post, Is your blog design memorable?

You may need to Learn markdown so as to improve your blog design and if you use shutter stock Images for your posts you may reconsider

Even if you run a series that requires a single or simple design, try as much as possible to make it unique and memorable

Below are some designs I made for @infovore for his Steem Magazine

Great post ogo! I'm probably gonna end up paying someone to make me a cool logo when I get some more cash, but I normally like doing things myself.

Those are some sick designs you made for infovore, did it take long to learn how to learn photoshop and all that?

Hello @waphilip

Thanks for reading and yes design is vital.

I designed the images on Canva.com.

It is a very nice place and they have lots of awesome templates.

@ogochukwu

I tried it, and it only works on laptops sha.
Bummer.

So true. I found out that putting a little humour in my posts make me more relatable and people comment more .

It's hardwork finding pictures that fit what you are trying to say, especially with the limited websites that have free stock photos.

I only know of Pixabay and Pexels.
