It's interestingly convenient that the growth of proof of stake corresponds roughly with growing traditional institutional investment and participation in crypto. It's also lined up with the increases in crypto systems spawned by and practically tied to specific companies.
AFAICT most of the things implemented atop PoS aren't even really dependent on PoS per se, they've just ridden on new platforms that just happened to be PoS
Still, there is an argument for rewarding people participating in the currency to some degree so hybrid PoW+PoS systems with a majority-of-both requirement might provide the best of both worlds.
