Intriguing thoughts. I've been a long time sports/business sim gamer and have always found the unbelievable link that could be created between "fantasy sports" and running a team like a sim. Or to take it one step further, have an upcoming sports league start X number of Go Fund Me campaigns for each city, having the fans become the ownership, similar to what goes on with the Green Bay Packers. Of which, also paying players in ownership of the team (shares of the team) that they could sell back to the public or keep as they go along. In a nutshell, what people like George Halas (founder of the Chicago Bears former player), Art Rooney (founder of the steelers former player), and Curly Lambeau (founder of the Packers former player).
