With the advent of technology and internet, millions of websites are available on the World Wide Web (WWW) and new websites are getting added every day. What is the main goal behind any website? What are the benefits of owning or creating a website? Even though some websites are created only for informational purposes majority of the websites are created only for monetization or for the development of their existing business. Let us compare two types of websites.

  1. Business-oriented - Usually any company or big organization will have their own websites. They will provide detailed information about their products/services on their websites. It is mainly used as a portfolio for their company and they don’t need much traffic to their websites.
  2. Content-driven – This type of website is 100% driven by content and their ultimate aim is monetization. So, they update the content regularly either on daily/weekly / monthly basis. A content-driven website needs a lot of traffic on a daily basis.

Do you know the main source of income for a content-driven website? Advertisements. There are many types of online advertising available for a website. Direct advertising and PPC(Pay Per Click)/CPM (Cost Per Thousand). In Direct advertising, the advertiser has to pay the website owner for buying a space on their website to place their ads. In CPM/PPC, the website owner will be paying the ad traffic companies to get the ads on their website. If a visitor clicks those ads, the website owner will get a revenue depending on whether it is PPC/CPM.

The biggest problem for the website owners are Ad blocking Extensions or Softwares, Pop Up blockers etc as they prevent the ads from getting displayed to the visitors. So the website owners are losing a lot of revenue as they don’t get much visitors to click the advertisements. The publishers are not rewarded for their money spent. From the user’s points of view, they think advertisements are annoying and intruding their privacy. They also distract them from viewing the content undisturbed.

How to find a solution that is favorable for both users and website owners/advertisers? A company named Oyster is developing an innovative multilayered protocol named Oyster which will help the websites to generate revenue in a silent manner without affecting the privacy of the users. To achieve that, the website owners have to add only a single line of script in their source code. They will be paid automatically as the protocol uses the concept of artificial nodes to detect the traffic to the website. Oyster protocol will be developed on top of the existing Ethereum blockchain.

Please visit the whitepaper https://oyster.ws/OysterWhitepaper.pdf to learn more about the following concepts.

  • Robust and Redundant data storage.
  • The algorithm that is used for finding the traffic.
  • IOTA Tangle.
  • Anonymous storage.

Oytser will be releasing a special token called PRL (Pearl) to access the features of the Oyster Protocol and to get rewards. The tokens will be sold during their crowdsale in Oct-Nov 2017. For getting more details about the discounts and benefits of token sale, please visit https://oyster.ws/

I'm really interested in this ICO. Seems like adding a 1 line javascript code in the header of your website can earn money is a great idea. Can they pull it off? Well now, that's different all together. I'll guess we'll find out. I'll be keeping an eye out on this one!
