Africa, is Block Chain technology the solution.

in #blockchain7 years ago

In my view there many areas that I believe Africa can benefit from block Chain technology but will mention the two that feel the will really be of help in Kenya

  1. Birth Registration
In Kenya, there are many Births that are not registered on time or never registered at all especially in the remote areas where traditional midwives offer services to the local communities. These has resulted to people applying for Birth certificates much later when they are all grown and require the National Identity Cards to seek employment and open Bank Accounts. They are taken through a rigorous identification process by local chiefs and elders to ascertain they are Kenyans. These has really affected the communities that border Somalia especially in the advent of al-shaban terrorist group activities that has terrorized Kenyans for a couple of years now. We’ve had situations where members of the terrorist group exploit the loophole and get National ID’s.
I believe block chain technology can create a base where the government can keep track of all its citizens from birth to death. Here, new births are registered on a block chain and forms a reference to all areas in one’s life such as education, health, employment and elections.

  2. Voter Registration
In Kenya we’ve had contested elections that has resulted in violence and loss of life and property. There is one where at we’ve had dead people resurrect, vote and return to their grave. By these I mean more votes are cast than the number of people registered. On Block Chain Tech, voter registration will validate against all birth certificates and voting become transactions that can’t be redone. Once a person dies the registry is updated and automatically de-registers one as a voter.

Please share your though and suggestions on problems that block chain will help solve
