The blockchain is the ultimate bandwagon. The ultimate mania. We jumped on right away because of the promises. Oh, the crypto authorities say the blockchain is great and will bring us our freedom? Awesome. Let's do it! Let's create this so we can be free. How does it work? Oh, everything has its own currency and miners do the work and all transactions are recorded forever. Awesome, let's do it! When can I build my blockchain biz? I'll do an ICO!! YES!!! XYZ will go the moon! More blockchains are coming. All revolutionary!
Promises, promises. The way I see it, is that all these blockchains are coming out, and none are fundamentally different than the rest. They may have tweaks here and there, but where is the originality? They have the same fundamentals. We're stuck if it doesn't work. Stuck with the potential inefficiencies if they got it wrong.
Let's challenge the "truths" that all transactions need to be recorded on the blockchain. Let's challenge the idea that every DApp needs its own currency. Let's challenge the "fact" that every aspect needs to be decentralized. What if all that is wrong? The odds that it will all be right, are pretty low, in my opinion.
I want to diversity. I want originality. I want something different to invest in. It seems, that even in the crypto space, people are afraid to be different. Let's be different, even amongst ourselves.
I am not sure - right now I feel vastly overwhelmed trying to gather information about 800+ currencies available. Some with futuristic, great visions - others with silly ideas.
Finally, I do not think many of those currencies will survive since mankind prefers monopolies to some degree. Who wants to ask the girl at Starbucks "do you accept SuperC01n, L33tCoin or Futurista as well?"
I hear ya. I'm not sure the current model is a good one.
