As users of crypto exchanges you surely have seen sites getting Ddosed (often on coin pumps) or just sites getting so popular they cant handle the traffic. There are many services helping with that, Cloudflare/Akamai being most popular.
The services itself are centralized so at some point if there is bug with them or an attack on them, whole network will go down, as has single point of attack.
Gladius solves this problem.

Fascinating idea. I'm curious how you would be able to direct traffic to all of the spare computers and networks to absorb the attack. I guess I'll have to read the whitepaper.
On a side note, it would be great if you could source that F.U.D. you are creating in the following:
Cloudflare was not taken down due to a DDoS attack. (Source: I work there.)
Are you thinking the Dyn or AWS outage?

Exchange needed it so badly and also mining pool. But its future customer will be government and school website, this are the place on earth very prone to ddos attack. Therefore the token has a real value and promissing future is awarded to anyone give value to the community

I'd suggest a little caution if you are intrigued enough to invest. All of their founders are currently undergrad students at the University of Maryland.

I love it when the kids see a solution their older peers totally missed. Did I tell you the story about when Larry met Serg ? oh you've heard it, one grad student shows another prospective pupil around the college facilities, next thing their little project is asked to leave the college server cos' it's eating up all the bandwidth.. Google was born, that was 20 years ago.

There is a very different maturity profile and likelihood of success between graduate students at Stanford and a set of undergraduate students at Maryland.
I'd be fearful that they aren't just going to use the ICO to pay off student loans.
ah well, it's the wild west out, good luck to them if they do. I think Gladius is a really neat solution for an insidious problem and like siacoin, sonm.. it uses existing capacity, so for me has a kind of efficiency. If they can prove successful they could be very handy and not just in the crypto world !!
I see your point in general somethingsubtle, but if you do some digging you will see that they actually have a lot of experience in creating startups, not to mention the advisors behind this project. I started at their age too or even before.
I see the point too, but I think there's a great sense of urgency about many of these projects. They won't all succeed but that's not the point. It's the exploration of new territory and experience. adaptive radiation in process. What does work becomes the future. I think Gladius is a good idea and the kernel of the idea if often far more important than experience of being successful. Let's see !

Considering that DDOS attacks carry a high reward-risk ratio for the attacker, it's little wonder that they're one of the most often-used attacks out there.
A completely decentralized internet would eliminate that problem. Until then, we may ahve to settle for decentralized DDOS-blocking software.
How would you send the traffic to the decentralized servers though? DNS and a load balancer?
Hey @somethingsubtle, if you're still curious about Gladius' architecture we can answer that.
Gladius pools would run their own DNS service that a website owner would set as their nameservers just like Cloudflare. These DNS servers would first direct a client to the closest node to them, then if that node is at capacity they would direct to the next closest node and so on. Static files are served and traffic is verified by the nodes, then any non static requests are passed through the master node to the destination server. The master node serves to mask the IP of the destination server from any potentially malicious node in the pool.

So, to clarify, there would be no redundancy in the DNS servers? You would direct to ns1/2.poolname.com which would then send requests to the nearest capable pool.
A DNS-reflection attack of any scale, including the Mirai botnet, would then topple the entire system.

Too many variations upon Filecoin for me to consider any single one worth investment. Maybe they'll become healthy companies, but the level of competition and lack of distinguishing features makes me conclude investment is not an option.
