Stop the madness!

in #blockchain7 years ago (edited)

I've got a lot of followers in the blockchain space and my message inbox is getting increasingly clogged with pitches for ICO's and for conferences with speakers who have limited knowledge or experience with blockchains or cryptocurrencies. Every day, I get multiple people wanting to connect with me with newly minted job titles related to cryptocurrency. Just one year ago, I would get just one or two a week. So many newly minted experts! So much marketing BS.

Let's do this. If you can code, list that in your offering of yourself. If you market, list that. If you are soliciting for an ICO, list that. If you are an enthusiast, list that. If you are involved in this space, then be clear about how you can contribute and how you will improve or expand the capabilities of the blockchain.

I'm just an enthusiast - since 2014, and I don't code. I also don't think ICO's are worth offering unless the ICO supports development of something useful to the blockchain infrastructure like sharding, or identity management, or storage, or additional algorithms for proofs of work or stake, or extensions of coding languages like Viper. We have a commons - we blockchainers - and we don't need it clogged by parasites. You know if you are a parasite and you can stop. And if you are a contributor of any kind, tell us. If you are a special contributor - someone who can synthesize across chains and disciplines - reach out to the Ethereum foundation or other legit blockchain organization and pitch how you can grow the ecosystem.

Get a grip, folks! We used to have hundreds of little railroads all across our land, all using different configurations of track width, size, and placement. They aren't there anymore, and neither will you be.... unless you help evolve a community where standards are cooperatively evolved. I hope NEO, Cardano, and Ethereum evolve a consortium of open blockchain architectural standards. Go away Ripple and other permissioned ripoff blockchains! I hope you, my reader, love the idea of an open free and accessible set of tracks that can connect us all without expensive friction the monopolists and gatekeepers introduce between us. skyisfalling.jpg

What are your thoughts on already successful ICO's?

Specificly, I've just written a post on Red Pulse ICO.. I've noticed a lot people are not a fan of these type of crowd sourcing, but i really believe Neo has a good chance of succeeding with RPX.

Most ICO's are highly speculative unless you know the history of the members of the team offering the ICO. A good team is much more likely to succeed. Crowd sourcing itself is not directly involved with blockchain platform improvement and therefore has a lower likelihood of wide adoption. But if you test your assumptions and buy wisely, you should be OK in the long run.
