ABOUT BLUZELLE

Bluzelle, the distributed open-source database service for decentralized applications (dApps) developers, is undoubtedly one of the greatest additions to the decentralized web. Founded by Pavel Bains and Neeraj Murarka in 2014, the database was designed to manage data for dApps in a scalable, censorship resistant and highly secure manner.

Preceding the founding of Bluzelle, developers depended on centralized databases such as Microsoft database to build dApps. This made the decentralized web as slow as molasses. The slowness of the decentralized web was due to the lack of flexibility and the difficulty of access to data on the centralized databases which form the centralized points of failure for the dApps. Also, developers lack the true freedom, which forms the cornerstone of decentralization, on the centralized databases.

To solve the issues associated with dApps data storage and management, developers began to use blockchains such as Ethereum to develop their dApps. However, these blockchains could not support the massive amount of data produced by dApps as they have limited spaces and low transaction per second (TPS) rates. This led to slowness and gross inefficiency in the use of blockchain for dApps data storage which resulted in data breaches.

To tackle the problems of dApps data storage, Bluzelle was founded as a decentralized data layer providing decentralized, on-demand database service for dApps. The database utilizes swarming technologies to ensure that dApps developers get the highest throughput in performance, reliability and scalability.

Bluzelle uses cryptography and sharding techniques to provide privacy guarantees to developers. It uses the concept of fog or warm computing to replicate every unit of data in a single leaf of swarm among a host of swarms. This helps to reduce latency as data is retrieved from the nearest nodes on the leaf swarm and also increase speed as data is retrieved in parallel from the fastest nodes on the leaf swarm.

Also, the database ensures scalability by using algorithms that store data in a unique, coordinated and organized way. It utilizes blockchain principles, sharding concepts and partitioning to create a marketplace similar to the AirBnB model for data storage and management.

Bluzelle as compared to other decentralized databases
Even though the development of decentralized database has revolutionized the decentralized web, most decentralized databases still face issues with implementing true decentralization. These issues arise from the non-decentralization of certain protocols in the databases. This opens the databases up to threat of their network going down or their being manipulated.

In contrast to other decentralized databases, the Bluzelle database is the first fully decentralized database. It offers greater security, censorship, resistance and scalability. This is due to the database’s use of validator nodes to store and verify all data inputs.
Also, the Bluzelle database is auto-managed. Unlike other decentralized databases where developers have to manage their nodes by themselves, Bluzelle saves the developers’ time, energy and resources by managing the nodes for dApps.

In contrast to other decentralized databases that are operable on just a single blockchain, the Bluzelle database is interoperable on all blockchains. It is powered by the Inter-blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.

Furthermore, Bluzelle has a financial incentive for its nodes to act right. Producers on the Bluzelle database who provides resources to the network earn Bluzelle tokens (BLZ) in exchange for their services. This encourages competition by producers to provide high quality services unlike in other decentralized databases where services are provided by volunteer nodes with no economic incentive to maintain the truth.

Through these ingenious innovations, the Bluzelle database has distinctly exhibited superiority over other decentralized databases and is on the fast track to become the lead database for data storage and management in the decentralized web
