One of the most prestigious universities in China, Fudan University, has opened a blockchain research center, according to an announcement published on February 15, 2019.
As per the announcement, Fudan University established the Shanghai Blockchain Technology Research Center in collaboration with Zhongan Online Property Insurance Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Zhongren Information Technology Co., Ltd.
The center is said to be carrying out basic research on blockchain technology, demonstrating applications, and providing related training. The establishment of the Shanghai Blockchain Engineering Technology Research Center will further promote the development and growth of the blockchain industry in Shanghai and is said to facilitate the economic development of Shanghai.
Other Chinese universities have also integrated the blockchain into their scholarship programs. In January, the University of China collaborated with the blockchain payment company Ripple, the Fintech Research Institute at Tsinghua University in Beijing (THUFIR) to announce the Scholarship Program for Blockchain Technology Research (BRSP). This program aims to find the best graduate students in China in 2019 to study the rules and development of the blockchain industry.
Earlier this month, the Chinese Institute for Fintech Research at Tsinghua University joined the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) which was launched in June 2018, which will support academic research, technical development and innovation in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and digital payments.
