It revealed that it is planning to implement Blockchain-based decentralized IDs (DIDs) into its Microsoft Authenticator app.
The company announced this in a blog post on Monday, February 12.

As reported in the post,
Microsoft wants to provide a new model of digital identity,

  • That's not controlled by any centralized institution.

  • That can guarantee fully private data storage.

  • That can enable the individual to have full control of all aspects of their digital identity.

After considering a number of standards for decentralized identity systems, Microsoft reports they decided to use Blockchain Technology and Pritocols.

They stated:

“Some public blockchains (Bitcoin [BTC], Ethereum, Litecoin, to name a select few) provide a solid foundation for rooting DIDs, recording DPKI operations, and anchoring athestations.”

They are planning to add DID support to its Microsoft Authenticator app to manage identity data and cryptographic keys.
According to the company, this app was launched in August 2016 and is being used by millions of people.

** Best news is that,**

It's not just Microsoft ! There are more companies interested in DIDs.

In October, 2017, Cointelegraph reported that many more governments globally are considering to adopt Blockchain-based identity management systems to shift the control of data to individual citizens.

If Microsoft actually accomplishes this, then other companies will follow up.

It'll b like a decentralized world within a decade.

I can't but wait for that to happen.
