DCrops: Trying Out a New Game on HIVE!!

Recently my fellow crypto buddy Paul (aka PVM) asked me to try out a new NFT based game on HIVE that is called HoloZing. I checked out their site and scooped up all the project info available. It seemed promising so I went to the market section to get started. Then I realised it needed a vial costing $20 of HBD and I only had about $10 in my wallet so I bookmarked it and decided to come back after a week or so when I would have accumulated more funds.
As I was roaming around HIVE DApps section I decided to check out which other games are there. First on the list was of course Splintelrands which I have been playing for Gazillion years already. Next was HoloZing which I had just checked. Then I saw a game called DCrops and decided to check it out. In this post I will be covering what all I found out about it and what is my first impression about it.

What Exactly is DCrops?
Simply put DCrops is FarmVille kind of game running on HIVE blockchain. As I used to be a big fan of FarmVille I knew I was going like this game even if it was half decent.
The thought that there is a game which has the same dynamics as FarmVille and is working on a Play2Earn model on the blockchain made the idea even more attractive to me.
Before getting my hopes too high I took a quick look at the market section to see what the starter pack here would cost. I was relieved to see that it was worth $5 which I had in my wallet to get started.
The starter pack included 4 kind of plant seeds- Clover, Bob Choy, Asparagus and Artichoke. There was a piece of land to grow your seeds on. The catch was that starter pack only had 1 piece of land so I could only grow 1 crop at a time. If I wanted to grow multiple crops at same time I will need to purchase more land from the market. I decided to continue with my single piece of land for now. There was also a Cooking Pot NFT included in the starter pack which I assume will be used later to cook up some dishes once I have harvested enough vegetables. There were also some boosters like fertilisers included in the pack.

How to Play DCrops?
The Game runs in seasons just like Splinterlands and at end of the season depending on how many vegetables you harvested you would be rewarded in crop tokens which can be traded in the market.

Season quest.png

Each Season you will be given some tasks like growing particular number of crops to be eligible for some bonus rewards. It looks like depending on your activity level you will receive a matching amount of CROP tokens and they also distributed some HIVE tokens across the top players.
This is my first day here so probably I will come back with a follow up post after this season to share my views about how were the rewards and what is my view on the reward pay out rate for this game.

How is the Game Interface?
The game interface is quite intuitive and easy to navigate so I was able to figure out most things related to getting started with planting my first crop.
If I have to compare with Splinterlands the interface is not so sleek and I did struggle a few times, eg I was not able to find the inventory section and the page appeared frozen.
Luckily the Discord group is super helpful and I was able to figure out how to proceed. They also gave me some tips on which crops to grow to maximise my rewards.
I think this game has a very small user base as just after my first day I am already at rank of 141 with my starter pack. This gives me the vibes of my initial days of Splinterlands when there were very players active.
Let’s see how this journey with DCrops progresses.
