Splinterlands, Why Am I Still Bullish?

I started playing Splinterlands since 2020 so it’s been a long ride and I have seen the game evolve from a small cult kinda group to expanding it’s username to bigger and bigger levels.
I have to admit that in these 4 years there have been phases that I have fallen madly in love with the game and there are times when I will stop playing for months at a stretch. These periods of ignoring the game is caused due to several factors like being tied up with IRL situations or getting p*ssed with some change in the model. What matter sis that ultimately I always come back and it is one of those few blockchain projects that I will probably stay involved for the long term and I am totally convinced that this game is built to last.
As I have been around the game’s ecosystem for 4 years I have seen a bull run hype already as crypto markets in general follow 4 year cycles of crazy bull run and depressing bearish phases.
The last bull run in Splinterlands saw some people make life changing gains (unfortunately I was not in the list) and I have a hunch that the next bull run for Splnterlands is going to coincide with the next Bitcoin bull run which I feel will happen somewhere towards the second half of 2025.
This time I feel I am much better positioned to make serious gains once the Splinterlands cards see a crazy pump.
Many of you might think I am doing crazy talk as there is a lot of in-fighting happening in the Splinterlands camp as many people are not happy with new changes.
I personally see it as an opportunity to build up my positions deeper at discounted rates.
Let me clarify that this is not financial advice and just my personal strategy and you do the DYOR like always before taking any action.

What Did I Learn from the Last Bull Cycle of Splinterlands?
When I started off with Splinterlands I did not think much and frankly did not expect too much from this game. Honestly speaking I was not sure if the game will survive till end of the year as I could see most projects burning out after a few months or in many cases weeks after launch.
Only thing I remember is that I had made a good profit from one of the crazy yield farms and managed to book some gains before it dumped.
As I had some liquidity at hand I did not care much about putting $10 into Splinterlands to buy the Spellbook. I liked the idea of opening those treasure chests. It was like opening lottery scratch cards for free everyday.

I remember getting many gold foil cards for free just by playing the game. New players will find it hard to believe that there was a time that you will open so many chests every season and sometimes you will get lucky to get a gold foil legendary which could instantly be sold in the market for a small fortune.
I did sell a good number of my gold foils in the last bull run as I was expecting their prices to correct so I could buy them again much cheaper.
This is where the Land ecosystem messed up my plans. As it created utility for Untamed series gold foil legendaries their prices never really fell.
My lesson learnt for next bull run is that I will not sell all by Goldfoils this time but keep the ones I actually use to fight for the long term, unless of course I get an irresistible offer.

Why are Soulbound NFTs a Good Thing for Old Players?
I see many old time players complaining about soul bound NFTs replacing the earlier model where traceable NFTs were rewarded. I still think it is a good development for old timers who have a solid collection of cards from different releases. The card prices will eventually rise as free traceable cards are not distributed now. It might seem that Chaos cards are a lost case but I am sure they will eventually make a comeback specially considering there are so many powerful cards in that collection.
New players should not be disappointed as they can collect the soul bound cards for free and if they want to boost their power with some Chaos or Rebellion sets they are available for a discounted price in the market.
Bottomline is that it might seem like most collections are bleeding right now but as the wise Buffet said the best time to buy is when there is blood on the streets.

Cheers,
Sam
