While browsing through channels I saw that a github link was shared. Shows one of the newest changes made to the Steem blockchain. Which includes blocking more accounts. This modification was made last month, in late February. A continuation of their Steem protection hardfork, they have added some new changes.
Their plan to block “malicious voters” on Steem includes people like @acidyo @steemcleaners @spaminator and @infovore. Something to note is this only affects the “vote_operation” but regardless it is a change blocking accounts from making transactions (voting) on the chain.
Four years after the fork from Steem to Hive, we continue to see true censorship on the legacy blockchain. This is not the first time Steem has blocked accounts.. Such people as @steevc and @themarkymark blocked at the API level making their posts completely disappear from the front ends.
I would like to point to the above examples as what censorship should be defined as. I see some Hive users still claim there is censorship on this chain, when they get downvoted, muted or put on blacklists.
But when compared to changes made at the core level in the legacy blockchain which is Steem to block people from transacting (moving funds, voting or other core aspects of the chain), or completely “unpersoning” someones profile on the API level. And seizing funds and moving them into "community accounts".
I am really glad to be on Hive, as I do not worry about such things ever happening. Seeing these things happen on the old chain reminds me how it is no longer the place it used to be. And I can see why Steem’s altcoin cap has dropped so much in the recent times.
Censorship has really been the only updates they do.
That's remarkable to see an account block coded into the chain itself.
You familiar with the 80 or so accounts who had their balances hard forked out (mine account included).
I don't worry too much about being censored there as I don't intend to post again, but having all my old stuff hidden is against the principles of blockchain. At least I didn't lose any funds and was able to convert all mine to $HIVE. That gave my account here a boost.
It really is amazing that old chain keeps going as it is rigged to support a few users and give crumbs to the rest. I think people are still joining, but they might be better off on Hive as long as they are not scammers.
The prices of the two coins used to be fairly close, but now $HIVE is well ahead and their 'stablecoin' has dropped a lot. That shows what value they have.
This makes Steem effectively a broken chain. The primary utility of decentralization is censorship-resistance.
It still looks like trash and that is pretty funny that they are still putting any energy into censoring accounts. I honestly thought they had all given up on the chain.
I'd be curious to see the Monthly/Daily active user numbers there, it can't be growing.
I wouldn't think so. I kind of wish there hadn't been the big push to punish people using both chains. I mean, I get why they did it, but I think it would have been cool to milk as much as I could from the other chain and throw it all into HIVE. I was doing that for a while until people started getting downvoted for it.
It's challenging for most people to recognize a pragmatic solution while sustaining a revolutionary spirit, at that moment it's pulling the brain in two different directions.
For sure. I would have loved to have milked Steem dry to boost my HIVE account.
Its been years since I looked, I think I narrowly avoided being censored as I was giving them a hard time during the last few weeks.
There's still time, to leave your mark :)
Well thats how we know that we are in the right place! At least for now!!! Waiting for the comments seeing people complaining about people who downvotes in 3…2…1
Censorship is the worst thing that can happen to any network!
And what about stealing and reusing your intellectual property?
Questionable.
This is already plagiarism - plagiarism is immediately banned 😁
Blocking accounts from transacting is a harsh violation of the principles of blockchains, makes it a shitcoin or even worse imho.
Blocking a user from transacting on-chain is one of the worst things that can happen. What could be worse?
Downvoting isn't censorship, but it can be used as a bullying tactic. Does Hive have a block feature, where someone can block another account from viewing their content and therefore downvoting them? I don't know. I've never tried to use it.
How could this be regarded after such actions? Downvotes or Muting can be understandable but how these core aspects are controlled in the chain I don't know as it seems everyone in that sphere are malicious, I don't think it could be happen here in Hive as it is showing a great deal of variety in actions and such illicit doings collectively is impossible in my observation.
oh Yea.. Hive Rocks!! 😉😎🤘 I am so glad I found my way to hive now.. although I do look fondly on the old days in steemit..
Hm... time is arrived to dig deeper on that shithole.
What an absolute shit show, is it just propped up by Sun out of embarrassment these days? It needs to go to 0!
Eww there must be ways to move a community forward other than sensorship XD I don't know why they do that. I hope they block me too.

Tell me about it,...
Blocking users from blockchain is breack all the rules of blockchain, and transform steem in a goverment tool!
Never went back there and no second thought as well - hive is now our home.
What a keen eye you are! ☘️
