RE: D5 - What is the Block Chain in 5 Minutes

in #blockchain8 years ago

Try watching it again, and pause it for bits that go too fast. Maybe Patrick and I should do an update vid that is a bit longer but goes into more detail and spends a bit more time. what specifically dont you understand? my mum is exactly the same :) she also cant quite fully understand the concept of blockchain :)) Looking into the blockchain in this way is like taking a glimpse into what it is that is operating the internet, none of us truly understand what it is and how it works, but we use the internet anyway. Please let me know more about where this isnt sinking in and we will address :)) thanks for your feed back!

That kind of puts it in a nutshell - I mean none of us really know how cellphones work and yet we speak to people in other countries on a daily basis - thanks @starkerz

Just know that you dont have to do anything with the blockchain as a user of this technology. computer programs operate in the background that make all of this work seamlessly, while the user clicks, likes, up votes, shares, transfers money, and executes smart contracts. What is described in the video is what is going on while you do all of this. The video is only trying provide the viewer with a simple idea of the principles of a block chain and why it is distributed, along with a little about what mining is. That really is all most people need to know to have an appreciation for the main principles of what a block chain is. essentially it is an un forgeable ledger. The advent of this tech has allowed for steemit, a platform for free speech and freedom from censorship, it has also allowed for accounting transparency, peer to peer crowd funding and many many others, which we will discuss more in later videos.

Thank you @starkerz - really appreciate your indepth answer
