Blockchain technologies grew to a level that large financial institutions can no longer ignore them. They have plenty of money and blockchain technologies looks like the perfect opportunity to spend them. However, according to their traditional views they want to be able to control the specific technologies so in 2018 we might see more investments in creating new blockchains than in investing in the truly distributed existing ones.
In the past years, corporations such as BNY Mellon, Goldman Sachs, ING, Santander, and UBS worked on many proof of concept blockchain projects, so we will see a few of them moving beyond the proof-of-concept phase.
UBS is spearheading the Universal Settlement Token for inter-banking settlement between banks I believe.
And it is just not just large banks it is also the central banks. Whatever the central banks do, no matter how much we like or dislike them, will also contribute to a seismic shift. Just came across this post about everything they are working on.

Blockchains are built on the concept that nobody can control them. This is so much different to the vision of a central bank...
Well, it is really the crowd or the swarm that controls it no? Central banks may still look to incorporate distributed ledger blockchain with some central control. Who knows what they will come up with or if eventually they will try to block non-state sponsored platforms.
This is the beauty of future, you don't really know until it happens....
LOl, wasn't it Yogi Berra who said "Predictions are really hard, especially when you are talking about the future." :)
He seemed to be quite accurate in that prediction... :P
No end of a bullish trend. Institutional investors are just starting to move funds to crypto world.
whether we should continue to invest for the future
