The recent "adpocalyps" on YouTube as they struggled with the balance between providing an ad safe platform and an open one that encouraged creatives to grow.
Patreon is an example of a shifting awareness of the relationship between the creator and their audience and it's success is proof that the timing is right for a more mature solution.
The idea of an 'attention' token which is effectively what Steem is, is really interesting to me.
It democratizes rewarding creators and influencers for content that actually does move needles.
The interest and adoption of crypto is a clear indication to me that people are looking for ways around the fiat, centralized world where they are increasingly taxed and service fee'd to death. Any little side gig, side hustle or cream on top is welcome and people are willing to spend some time learning how to use these new tools if they see a clear benefit.

It seems like this platform should be a big disruptor for youtube. I'm actually interested to see how content creators will be rewarded using steemit. The future looks very promising!
