All I'm saying is that I looked into Royal Reptile Studios and found nothing that would indicate they could do what they stated in the post, which I quoted above.
In my research it appears to me that their "portfolio" page on Upwork contains publicly available Unity assets you can buy for $29.99 and are used by thousands of indy developers. These do not appear to be "in-house" assets and are not what you would see in "the biggest blockchain game yet in the industry", which is what they stated they were making.
If it's true (and it likely is) that they're not even creating their own assets, but instead using cheap Unity assets used by everyone else creating similar cheap indy games, common sense would dictate they're either hoping to fool people who don't know any better or they'll never be able to do what they've claimed they want to do, especially on that budget.
Again I refer everyone to Star Atlas being built on the Solana chain. This is what a "biggest blockchain game yet in the industry" actually looks like. They have millions upon millions of dollars already funded and dozens of talented developers (Command & Conquer) and artist and still that game will not be completed until 2024 or so, if ever.
All of Star Atlas' models are created in house. Just take a look at their YouTube channel videos for what level of quality they are creating in Unreal Engine 5. Then consider RRS appears to be using $29.99 Unity Assets and listing Maksim Bugrimov's assets on their portfolio page as if they created it in-house.
Consider what kind of company would take someone else's work, assuming this is true, and then show it on their own profile page as if it's their work.
You simply don't do something like that unless you're trying to fool people who don't know any better. To ask those same people you're trying to fool for $100,000 before you've ever done anything outside play around in the free Unity software and buy a few game assets for a couple hundred dollars total is pretty shitty if you ask me, if that's what they're doing.
Example A
This is from RRS' "Portfolio" page ...
This is Maksim Bugrimov's Unity Asset for $29.99 ...
You can adjust certain features on the asset to make it look different, but it's the same asset created by Maksim and is listed on their "Portfolio" page as if it's something they created in house.
Example B
This is from RRS' "Portfolio" page ...
This is Maksim Bugrimov's Unity Asset for $29.99 ...
The other examples I've found are also cheap Unity assets used in thousands of other games.
For the record, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with buying cheap Unity assets for your indy game.
I used cheap Unity assets (and others) for the games I learned Unity with and gave away for free to the Hive Community. This is how I recognized what was going on with RRS right away.
I've spent thousands on Unity assets and have seen almost all of them and have experience using a lot of them to learn Unity for shits & giggles.
The problem is, RRS is listing these publicly available assets others have created and sell on RRS' "Portfolio" page and presenting a simple trailer using them to the Hive Community while asking for $100,000 up front claiming they're going to create the "biggest blockchain game yet in the industry".
That's simply deceptive at best and outright fraud at it's worst in my opinion. And if I'm correct, I'm sure Maksim would be interested to know that RRS is pretty much taking credit for his work by posting his work on their "Portfolio" page.
The other images shown on their "Portfolio" page are also very sus, but I didn't spend the time to verify them after verifying the ones above. That was enough for me. But I'm 99% sure I have seen the others too and likely own the source code to one in particular.
I can guarantee you this. No one will ever create "the biggest blockchain game yet in the industry" for $100,000 while using publicly available Unity assets used by thousands of other small indy developers ... unless the world is dumber than I thought.
To Everyone
Please do your own due diligence before investing in any project like this. Don't just take my word for it. All of this information (there is more) I found is publicly available (for now). But hey, if you have money to throw away on what might end up being vaporware (at worst) or low quality purchased assets and source code ... then don't listen to my opinion above. 🤷♂
initial funding of $100k while I have heard of plans to run multiple rounds like most big games require as well as many companies working together to make it all happen, of course a small mom n pop sized company is going to need help and just because he has the motivation to try and do it does not give you the right to tell him to not ask again. You can bash it and say what you will yet you cannot tell anyone what they can and cannot do, plenty of witnesses have questioned and done some checking and now buying millions of his shares yet I am sure you know better than them... By the way the coin has sold enough and gone up quite a bit over the 100k mark yet instead of cashing out and running he is holding and paying to have a HIVE front end developed and much more coming... I could be wrong yet it feels so right! Good luck with your negative perspective on a little company trying to take on a huge project, the rest of us are investing and helping! look at the rich list lately?
That's unfortunate. 😪
Live & learn I guess.
Hello @tuck-fheman
Thank you for raising your concerns.
Being in the industry I’m sure you’re aware all assets from Unity are the purchasers property, and are able to be used in any form.
See regulations/terms for Unity Asset store here:
https://unity3d.com/legal/as_terms
As far as a low quality product or vapor ware is concerned, that is just slander.
If using these assets to make games were so easy, you would be seeing hundreds of them.
You can’t simply plug and play items you get from the asset store.
The trailer shows what we’re capable of, and I’m sorry we used Unity assets for this. It’s not deception in any sense, but I’ll leave you to your opinion.
We’re more than dedicated to making this happen, and we never made a statement these will be the final designs/assets/graphics.
We have invested more than 3x the amount we’re requesting, and we have a lot of support already from the community.
Including quite a few I’m sure you know.
More than 80% is our own creation, and we thought to save costs we could use assets for some aspects.
Bear with us as we move through this.
We’ve been doing this a long time, and we’re not just some indie developers.
This community from my understanding stands on supporting each other, and I’ve seen much of that.
I’m more than happy to talk about any other concerns you may have.
