INTRODUCTION
The shipping industry has been a huge part of the global economy contributing about 50% or more to the global economy annually. However, container shipping is the huge chunk of the world seaborne trade taking up to 60% with a total value of about $12 trillion in 2017 with about 27million containers which are being moved/transported from one location to another across the world in real time. Additionally, several bottlenecks and challenges have been facing the shipping industry over the past few years like security threats, increasing environmental regulations, overcapacity and low rates hence causing a downturn in the total output of the industry.
As a result of these challenges and the negative impact they have on the shipping industry, there is an urgent need for attention by professional expertise in solving these inherent issues in giving improved processes, increased efficiency and a fundamental digital transformation for a profitable output in the global shipping in the future.
THE SOLUTION TO THE EXISTING PROBLEMS IN THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY BY BLOCKSHIPPING
Historically, since the 18th century, Denmark has been known the home of the world’s largest shipping companies despite the population of about 8million people. The Danish shipping is now highly advanced and takes the lead globally when it comes to innovation, efficiency, environmental considerations and the use of new technology.

The Danish have been well know for shipping profession globally and the best when it comes to innovating new technologies to solve problems in the shipping industry professionally because of the Danish specialty in shipping.
However in solving the above problems earlier mentioned in the shipping industry professionally, The Danish shipping expertise has met with the Blockchain expertise in the European Blockchain Center at the Danish capital, Copenhagen in a highly innovative global project called The Global Shared Container Platform(GSCP) . The GSCP platform aims to enable container shipping industry to achieve savings of up to $5.7 billion annually and avoid the environmental hazard/pollution of about 4.6 million tons of CO2 emission caused by these processes every year.
GSCP platform aims to become the platform that makes key processes in the global handling of containers and to provide a complete container asset registry powered through blockchain technology where the full global inventory of containers are registered with the real time locations of the containers around the world at any given moment.(like a ship registry)
