Autism and Unemployment

in #blog7 years ago

In this video, I will be talking about autism and being unemployed. I am not speaking for everyone, please keep this in mind.
You can guess based of the title that I am unemployed. I have been looking for a job since 2015, but at that time, none of the places in my area were hiring, most of them where in the suburbs.
I require a certain setting to avoid having issues. The setting I need are, not a lot of people, where I can work at my own pace. As fast paced settings are too much for me to take it. As when I was in school, I struggled with fast pace.
What makes my struggle hard is, like I told you above, finding a job that doesn't have a lot of people, not a lot of noise and where I can work at my own pace. Also a job that doesn't have heavy lifting as I hurt my shoulder when I was 14 and lifting heavy items aggravates the injury.
And example of a job with not a lot of people is an office job, or library job.
I feel working at a grocery store won't be the best because they get busy at certain times of the day, and remember, crowds and noise are my weakness.
Last summer I went through a process that I thought would help me find a job that's right for me. For example I thought they would help me find a job based off my skills, rule out jobs based off my weaknesses. But it wasn't what I thought
One reason why the process wasn't working, is because that dumb a** councilor thinks I am not autistic because of how I talk, which makes no sense. I couldn't tell her the structure I require because she refused to listen. She wouldn't hear me out. I don't want to take on a job that will be more challenging than I though

There are some fears that I had too. Like them firing me if I have a melt down or anxiety attack. That I won't want to go through all that trouble finding a job and not be there long. I am not speaking for all employers, but some of them get annoyed after awhile and will fire you. my ex friend have seizures and her boss probably got annoyed with it and fired her. He did fire her for it matter of fact. Again not speaking for all employers.
Thanks for reading/watching.
