Flava Man. Flava Man. Do you want to dance? Hell Naw. Hell Naw. I can't give you a chance. Can you finish this line. Probably not. Not even Shazam got this right. And this sums up just how badly promoted this song was. It was Evergreen content that had the chance to be big. But some would say could you really blame it for being underwhelming promoted? This song was buried deep down in a long tracklist of songs that were hits themselves that included some unforgettable verses. Not to mention how this soundtrack bridged two cities. Tulsa and Oklahoma City. These two cites are always in competition, well at least that's always been the narrative. But anyone who is really in the scene knows this couldn't be further from the truth, as artists like Steph Simon and Chris "The God" MC Cain collabed on a track called "Love Affair". Who could also forget the "Chosen Few" project from Dialtone and Grand National that proved that both cities not only work together but equally want to see each other win. Because a win in either city would mean a win for the state. But this was 2020!
A song that was so organic, so made for celebrating, so 2020! This seemed like the home run the state was waiting for. This song had the potential to put both artists in the national spotlight. For both cities to have their scenes solidified and reward the millions of hours artists have put in for both scenes. Two wildcards made a song that celebrated the turning of a decade. But when the decade came there was no mention of this hit. It's TRX's unorthodox flow that captures your ear when listening to his verse. His lyrics illustrate a player who just wants one thing in 2020.
I wish I didn't meet her in the club.
Keeng Cut. Fresh off his release of his album Flavio Cútatore, this was a 180 degree turn. This was straight Flava! Fans of Keeng Cut know that his playeristic lyrics and smooth delivery are reminiscent of a young Pimp C that has the independent hustle and respect of a Master P. Keeng Cut is not only mastered the finesse. He has introduced the world to Flava.
Flava Man. Flava Man. Do you want to dance?,
>Hell Naw, Hell Naw, I can't give you a chance,
Right Now, I'm about some paper,
I ain't doing that right now, holler at you later,
The countdown began. 5.4.3.2.1.. It's 2020. But for the song it was still trapped in 2019 with no mention. No tweet. No Instagram post. No New Years show. And no play. When it came to the song 2020 the was ball dropped. But hey. It's still 2020.
Listen to the song below and see why 2020 should've been the biggest song of the New Year.
