GALLOPING ---- HORSES

in #blog8 years ago (edited)

As a little girl, I remember climbing on my dad's back and asking him to be my horse was fun and am damn sure every kid would have experienced it. I don't know why, but I just love HORSES. I even remember the lines I used to recite sitting on my dad's back and then on a wooden horse I was gifted by my parents, which goes as -

Get up my horse, Get up my horse
Gallop, Gallop, Gallop
its morning
Let's go to school, school, school.

Get up my horse, Get up my horse
Gallop, Gallop, Gallop
its afternoon
its time to go back home

Get up my horse, Get up my horse
Gallop, Gallop, Gallop
its night time to sleep, sleep sleep.
I know this was funny but these are my memories of my childhood which I still cherish.

Everybody has the dream of having bikes, cars, on which they can ride or drive fast. But, not be surprised I had a dream of having one horse. YES, a Horse on which I would just sit and Gallop fast all over. I always wanted either a full black beauty or a milky white horse. Other colors never fascinated me.This dream of mine is not fulfilled till today but still somewhere in the corner of my heart still possess the same dream of riding whole day on my horse back without any other commitments and duties . No doubt, Horses are my favorite animals.

Humans started to keep horses around 4000 B.C and this spread around 3000 B.C. Horses are classified to domestic and wild horses. They have a sense of balance and a strong fight or flight response.Horses are able to sleep both by standing up and lying down. The female horses are called Mares and they carry their young ones for 11 months and a young horse is called a Foal. Young horses stand and run soon after birth.Horses usually become an adult by the age of five and have a lifespan of 25-30 years.
Horses age divided into three categories - Hot blood with speed, cold blood i.e draft horses and some ponies who are suitable for slow and heavy work. But now there are at least 300 breeds of horses in the world.
Horses are always useful to humans. Initially ,they were used in the warfares. Later, they were used in the agriculture, entertainment, carry load, transport, sports and also police department. Many products of horses are also of importance including its meat, milk, hide, hair, bones and the urine of pregnant mares which is used for pharmaceuticals.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimated that in 2008, there were 59,000,000 horses in the world. In the United States alone there are 9,500,000 horses.
Horses are usually ridden with a saddle on their backs for the rider to balance and a bridle or headgear to help the rider in maintaining control.Horses are also trained to be driven in a variety of sports competitions, such as show jumping, gymkhana, rodeos, fox hunting, endurance riding, dressage and horse shows. Horse racing is a major international industry watched by every nation of the world.

Horses are also used in religious ceremonies and cultural traditions. The mythologies of many cultures including Greek,Roman, Hindu, Islam include reference to both normal horses and those with wings. There are many myths about the chariots of sun and moon been driven by horses. There are many stories connected between a horse and Hindu mythologies.

Though Horses are so useful to humans, they have to be given proper care too.Horses are grazing animals and their major source is good quality forage from hay or pasture. A 450kg adult horse can easily eat up to 11kg of food. Horses also need plenty of clean water i.e.38-45litres per day. They also require a proper shelter from the wind and sun protection. They need proper vaccination to protect against various diseases too and a regular dental checkup from a veterinarian. A regular grooming is also a must to maintain its hair and skin.
Keeping a horse is a luxury. The cost of the horse and then maintaining it is too high, which all cannot afford. So those dreaming of owning a horse like me will keep it in dreams only...............................
