8 Things No One Tells You About Getting A Concussion

There are some things you won’t see coming when you get a concussion. Here are seven things no one ever mentions when it comes to getting a head injury.

  1. If you are alone when it happens, you won’t seek medical help. You will be in shock and will want to go lay down and fall asleep to get over the pain. Contact someone who knows you, and if they ask you if you are drunk, go to the doctor.

Even If you feel fine, you still need to be woken up every 2 hours after a head hit the first night. If you have a dog, you’re in luck, as he will find a way to wake you up if his usual methods are unsuccessful. He will shake his tail and stand on your calf every few hours to get out to go pee and wake you up. Believe me on this one.

  1. Your family and friends will text you following your head knock, and will ask how you are. Your replies will be illegible due to brain fog and blurry eyes. You will send multiple texts back with qualifying star signs saying, I didn’t mean I’m *God, I mean I’m *Good.

  2. Your kids will see you squinting and will lend you their dark sunglasses for your eyes. They already miss your cooking.

  3. You now have something in common with your son’s favorite Stanley Cup trophy winner named Sydney, who followed the same concussion protocol as you. Your son wants you back in the game.

  4. It’s best to leave your car parked for two weeks like the doctor advised, because turning left has never been so scary. That slow and blurry car way back there is on your butt and honking his horn. Bum rides and enjoy the blurry view behind dark shades with your earplugs in.

  5. There are several things you shouldn't say when you have a concussion, including "I'm fine" when you can't walk a heel- to- toe straight line without falling over, or “I don’t nap” when your eyes are shutting in your doctor’s waiting room.

  6. Teenagers will turn their sub-woofers and video games down to normal levels for a few days to accommodate your noise sensitivity. They will stop leaving every light on in the house for a few days, and will surprise you by taking said dog out for a walk. Enjoy these things while you can, they are limited time offers with a short-dated expiry.

  7. Your head took out the gate, but you forgot that your knee bore the rest of the fall and your hands sanded the pavement off the sidewalk. Your body has nerve endings in the most unexpected places that all cry out for rest at once.

I think I had a concussion back in my high school football days but back then they just told you to shake it off. Walked into the other teams huddles.

Ouch! Yeah, they used to call it "seeing stars" like it was a good thing!

My son played rugby and suffered a concussion.

Thing
Ever.
Great post!

Yes, it is freaky because you want to feel better and do things, but rest is best!

Oh definitely.

I hope you have a lovely evening :)

Thanks, you too!
