Dark Carnival is a fantasy and science fiction bookstore that has been in Berkeley for 41 years. It is now in the Claremont neighborhood, and there is an associated comic store that is just next door. They both are set to close their doors. Sales have been declining. Many people are worried that the book business will change forever. They are facing stiff competition from internet sellers. No one wants to pay more for books, but losing bookstores is a problem.
The Bay Area in general and Berkeley in particular are known for bookstores. I hope that sales pick up, and I also hope that local governments do what they can to keep bookstores open. They are an important resource for the community. I have gone to many book stores to find a particular book. I have come back with books I no plans to buy. Surprises can be great!
The outside of the store is carnival themed.
You cannot miss the comic store next door.
The inside of the store is a jumble.
There are places to sit down to read books. This is a great feature of Bay Area bookstores!
It is sad to see bookstores with character go out of business. The internet might be cheaper but nothing can compare to roaming shelves of books.

Thanks. I really like the community!
