The more articles of film historians and theorists I read, the more anxious I become.
I see a lot of works dedicated to cinema which in fact are about anything but cinema. It wouldn't be a problem if these articles wouldn't be written by authoritative and professional authors and published in magazines and professional medias. Instead of analyzing language, artistic features and cultural context of a certain film they are pouring out a flow of political mess, using a film as a simple occasion to express their subjective opinion on politics. This way their interpretations of film has nothing in common with it. It isn’t important which political preferences authors of such works have. It could be two authors with opposite points of view but both of them exploit cinema instead of serving it.
While critics are arguing on their political preferences the cinema itself remains as a child abandoned by parents and teachers on its own.
Of course, there are good, well-written articles which discover fundamental problems of cinema on a deep level. But the percentage of quasi-serious works is growing.
My message is: let’s be more attentive looking for articles to read. And do not let authoritative names to mislead you.
P.S.: During my being on steemit I found some serious and well-written articles about cinema and was so glad to read them.
