Today is the 24th of May.
A special day for millions of people around the world.
It is a celebration day of the Slavonic alphabet,
Bulgarian enlightenment, and culture.
This is the longest celebrated day in the new Bulgarian history, dating even before our liberation from the Ottoman empire's slavery.
More than 11 centuries ago, two wandering monks were offered shelter and place to stay in the capital of Bulgaria this time, Preslav.
One of the greatest leaders in Bulgarian history - King Boris I offered them a deal. In exchange for protection and a peaceful place to practice their believes, they were asked to write a new alphabet for the Bulgarian people, an alphabet easy to understand and easy to share with others. The King was tired of hearing the priests singing on greek language in the Bulgarian churches, knowing that the Bulgarian people can not understand it and, therefore, can not truly connect with their new God- Jesus Christ.
Not much time passed, and he decided to do something about it.
Firstly, the leaders of Constantinople and Rome were against because till then, the only three official languages spoken in the church were: Greek, Latin and Hebrew, and they didn't want to change that tradition, equaling others to their status.
On the contrary,
King Boris I was entirely determined and took no prisoners until he achieved his goal.
Proving that the Bulgarians aren't any barbarians or savages, but educated, spiritual and united nation, with a common language, traditions, and features, different than mass destruction and violence.
After the decease of King, he was followed on the throne by his 3rd oldest son - Tsar Simeon the Great. The following ages are remembered in our history as the Golden Century, not only for the numerous victories on the battlefields and the expansions of the Bulgarian Empire but especially for the flourish of the Bulgarian culture, the wide reach of the new alphabet and strong belief in God.
Nowadays, the Cyrillic alphabet is used by many people of different nations, including Serbians, Russians, Montenegrins, etc. , or about 300 million people worldwide and is the only alphabet that was spread to the people without a single act of violence!
Да живее България и Българската култура,писменост,история и традиции !!
And to make this day even more unique...
Today is my favorite team -Levski Sofia's foundation day. Before 106 years, a group of students decided to create a football team and to name it after one of the most remarkable Bulgarian heroes- Vasil Levski. He fought for the independence of my country even when nobody had faith that change is possible and gave his life for the greater good of our nation. He believed in justice, honor and dignity, and never spared efforts in achieving his mission.
These are just a few of the reasons to name the club after him, but with great respect, came the great responsibility. For many years, during world wars, occupation and communism, our team was repressed by the ruling parties, trying to eradicate the love, tradition and power of will of Levski Sofia's supporters. Power and influence, which were growing day by day, game after game, nevertheless all the efforts of our enemies.
After all these difficulties and repressions, supporters and journalists started to call Levski, the "team of the people ".
After more than ten years without silverware and with millions of debts and restrictions,my team is being attacked by the government again.
This time the attack was against the new owner of the team(one of the richest bulgarians), forcing him to leave the country and nationalizing his business with extremely short notice, and freezing all his bank accounts, connected to the club.
In these extreme conditions, the fanbase of Levski Sofia showed once again what Levski Sofia supporters are made of, and managed to accumulate more than 1.5 million euro donations for two months, to save the club from bankruptcy.
We sold a record number of season tickets, created many charities and so on.
We sold out the full capacity of "Georgi Asparuhov" Stadium, twice, in times of pandemic and fully aware that the games would be without spectators.
We once again showed that Levski means Bulgaria. And Bulgaria means Levski!
Happy Birthday, LEVSKI SOFIA FC!
Thank you for your time, and I sincerely hope this was interesting for you. I will continue to share anything interesting with you and hopefully will make you wonder why you haven't visited Bulgaria yet? :)
