Honestly, reading about your past really resonated with me. Back in high school I also got really into lucid dreaming. Me and my childhood best friend tried all these different techniques to help us lucid dream, some of which worked better than others. One summer in particular we took it very seriously, spending a week of our vacation on an island practicing lucid dreaming. That was probably one of the best summers of my childhood.
I have also had issues sleeping on and off in my life. Lately, my go-to solution when my sleep cycle starts going wonky is to have some chamomile tea before bed (roughly an hour before, as I calm down) to try and help me go to sleep, and then wake up earlier than usual to go for a morning run. Maybe that will help reset your sleep cycle.
