Do's and Don'ts When Growing Your Hair

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone!

As most of you may not know this, I have a long hair and I love my hair so much even when it doesn't look like million dollar hair. I would never ever trade my hair for anything and I always ignore people when they tell me to cut it already.

In this blog, I'll be talking about things to do on how to grow your hair fast.

First, I'll show you this picture. This was me 3 years ago. As you see, I uploaded that photo on June 2015. That's almost 3 years now. My hair was just about shoulder length and now...

I've made it to tailbone length. Give it a few more months till I get classic length which I've always dreamed of.

So here it is...

Don't cut your hair

This is a common misconception on people. "Trimming your hair every month makes your hair grow faster". No, it won't. An average hair grows 0.5 inches per month. If you cut your hair every month, you're basically removing the length it has grown in that whole time. Don't worry about the split ends. Your hair will get damaged no matter what. It will always get damaged over time. If you don't know how to take care of your hair, it will still have split ends. So cutting it won't solve the problem. It probably will in the mean time but it won't help you grow your hair.

Don't shampoo everything

This might sound gross to you but you don't need to shampoo all of your hair. The part where you need shampoo most is the scalp because it gets oily and sweaty every single day. The rest of the hair only gets dust . When you shampoo, just shampoo your scalp and the shampoo that gets on the rest of your hair while washing it is enough to remove those dust.
If possible, just shampoo your hair every other day because shampoo damages your hair if you do it very often. I do however shampoo my hair everyday because it's always summer here in our country and I always get sweaty head. I don't like it.

Be generous on conditioners

Conversely, conditioners gives your hair moisture. The tip of your hair is the part where it needs more moisture because it's the oldest part of your hair. It has gone through tough times and all those styling we do to our hair so be generous when putting conditioner on your hair especially on the tip. You don't need conditioner on your scalp. Our scalp releases natural oil. Adding conditioner will just make it more oily.

Comb your hair from tip going upwards

Don't be harsh on your hair when you comb it. This is when you'll get split ends if you comb your hair like you are always running out of time. To avoid getting too much tangles, comb it from the bottom going upwards. Just because you can't feel your hair breaking doesn't mean they're not hurt.

Stop using heat

In some countries, people always use hair drier and it's understandable especially if you live in a country where after taking a shower, your hair freezes if you don't dry it but using hair drier, hair straightener, curler, hair spray, all those products damages your hair. As much as possible, just air dry your hair. Avoid heat period.

Don't tie your hair

Tying your hair gives you more breakage. In case you really want to tie your hair, don't use thin hair ties. Thin hair ties hurt and it breaks your hair more than using thick hair ties. Trust me, I know from experience.

Lastly...

Don't use so much force when drying your hair with towel

I recommend using a soft towel. Don't squeeze your hair too much because your hair is most vulnerable when it's wet. You'll break your hair and it adds to more split ends if you squeeze your hair too much. Just pat it dry and not rub it all over.

Those are my tips on how to take care of your hair to keep it healthy.

You might be wondering why I have straight hair in this photo because if you've read my introductory post, I posted this photo.

I did perm my hair a few years back and I so regret it.I straightened my hair just for this post to show you its length. I rarely straighten my hair. Probably just once or twice a year. I originally have straight hair and I got bored of it so I had it permed and it's still curly until now. If I get requests, I will also post tips on how to take care of curly hair. That is all, see on my next post :)

thank you lor hahahahahah. I would love to read your curly hair tips too. Be sure to post one next time :)

gonna make one inspired by your post hahahaha

I used to have long hair, but decided to cut them shortly after some huge changes in my life. Anyway, "stop using heat" point might be problem in winter, but it's pretty easy to be solved. All you have to do is waking up early, using the shampoo and then you can go back to your sleeping... Just be sure to remember about setting up your alarm clock, I swear I always had problems with it, so I usually was able to make it to classes in the middle of the day hahaha

I would never want to wake up early hahahahah. If I'm late, I just won't wash my hair and just take a shower when I'm home

When I'm late... I don't care about it because I'm late, so why would I start doing everything as quickly as possible if it doesn't move me those few hours back in time hahaha

I'm rarely late. I don't like being late :)
