Hello Steemit Fretz!
Welcome to my Travel Trivia & Facts Series. Come and travel with me around the world to find fun, informative, and out of this world information about traveling and exploring different places around the world.
The Pamukkale Travertine Spring, looks like a cascading iced pool but the springs there are actually hot.
Pamukkale Travertine Spring
Pamukkale, is a Turkish word, which means “Cotton Castle.”
The site’s name is based on the cascading clear and pure white pools with turquoise waters. From a far, the white walls made of limestone looks like a huge cotton-made castle. The walls were formed because of the calcium-water present in the springs.
Hot! Hot! Hot!
The facade of the Cotton Castle, makes you think that the water there is pretty cold. Yes, they are totally hot my frets. Pamukkale has around 17 hot springs. Each spring’s temperature can range between 35 100°C. Better not just anywhere you want. Don’t worry, the pools are marked on which springs are safe to jump on.
Swimming in the Antique Pool
Another part of the Pamukkale that has existed in the ancient times is the underwater city that is in the section of Hierapolis. This ancient city got submerged in water when an earthquake hit the place. This is why this part is named as “Antique Pool.”
Note: This place has been flooded with tourist and has become a commercialized area. You need to pay a hefty price to swim here.
Barefoot
Walking barefoot is required and no footwear is allowed inside the terraces. The travertine is composed of tons of minerals. In order to take care of the place, tourists has to follow a special pathway around the terraces to prevent damaging and erosion.

Cool! That looks fun! I wonder how the stone feels beneath the feet, or if it has benefits from swimming in the pools. And it looks great too. Puffy and such.
healthy benefits of a hot spring! I'm curious how those stones feel on my feet too. ^^ ♥
Dawn, how do you know about all these cool places? I find these posts quite informative :)

I would love to see the whole wide world :)
Me to ^^
No doubt it has become touristy. It is amazing to look at. I would visit too!
It is the place is just lovely and mesmerizing. ^^
That is a very strange and unnusual place.
Can't imagine that being hot they way it looks. Intriguing!
Me too! That's what I really thought at first.
Just wow!
Super Wow!
Yeah!
The limestone does indeed look more like cotton, so that is an apt name for the castle. The water does look tempting so having a sign for which ones are the right temperature is a good thing.
I wonder whether while barefoot walking the minerals really do permeate through the skin.
Thanks for the useful post!
It says they do. We might get in on the wrong one and we will get toasted!
That am not sure about walking barefoot on how it can affect the skin. ^^ Thanks for dropping by ♥
