in #blog7 years ago (edited)

My daughter is now 9 weeks old so we thought it would be a great time for her to start exploing the big outdoors. I have a love for ancient history so I though we would visit the ancient Roman ruins of Virginia Water Just outside Windsor ( home of the Queen).

The lake is stunning with and although the ruins apear to be an acient town they were actually placed this way George IV around 1826-7 as a fasion item of the times. The ruins were imported from leptis which was part of now lybia and flourished under Agustus from the end of the first century BC until the beginning of the 3rd. The ruin was restored as part of a heritage project in 2009.

The cursed Totem pole giften to the Queen on her 90th birthday. It is said that Disgruntled Chief Mungo Martin, who carved the pole from a single log, placed the curse after he was not invited to present it to Her Majesty. It stands 100ft tall and weighs 12 tonnes carved from a single log.Totam Pole.jpg
